Baby carriers

Both my girls grew up in baby slings, from infant all the way to toddlerhood. It was either a ring sling, a pouch or a wrap. We find these especially convenient when we travel overseas. We need not lug around the strollers. We are also spared the challenge of maneuvering the strollers at crowded places.

Activities for toddlers

With Mia, we have travelled on a plane and driven to Kuala Lumpur before. Because she was strapped to her seat for long periods of time, there is a need to keep her occupied. Here are what we brought for her:

1) Small canisters of Play Doh
2) Magna Doodle
3) Colouring books
4) Story books
5) Colour pencils
6) Magnetic puppets (For story telling)

The trick is not to take out all her playthings the moment you strap her in. I introduce the items one by one at intervals so that it lasts the whole journey! If you are lucky, your precious one will sleep throughout the whole journey. Just like what Mia did on the way back from Australia. She slept for the whole 4 hours!

Travelling on a plane

When Mia was about 5 months, we went to Gold Coast for a holiday. During the flight, we asked for a bassinet and Mia slept in it. Although she was only 5 months, she was already filling up the whole bassinet.

The bassinet was placed infront of our seats. Of course, if you want a bassinet, you must inform the officer at the ticketing counter so that they will allocate the appropriate seats for you. Not all seats can be fitted with a bassinet.

If you have bigger children, forget about the bassinet and opt for a seat instead. The child would be more comfortable. That is what we did when we went to Bali when Mia was about 1.5 years old.

With regards to milk, we brought enough milk powder for a few feeds in our hand carry luggage(depending on the flight) and a whole unopened tin (Regulation in Australia: All milk products brought in must be unopened) in our check-in baggage. For hot water, we just ask the stewardess.
